PremedJournal ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use PremedJournal.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account information: Name, email address, and profile photo obtained from your Google account when you sign in.
Journal entries: The text, titles, tags, dates, and AAMC competency analysis results of your journal entries.
Activity data: Activity names, organizations, categories, date ranges, descriptions, and hours logs.
Usage data: App interactions and feature usage for improving the product (no third-party analytics).

How We Use Your Information

To provide, operate, and maintain the PremedJournal service
To authenticate your identity and secure your account
To store and sync your journal entries and activity data across devices
To analyze your journal entries using AI to identify AAMC competencies
To generate personal statement drafts and export materials
To improve and personalize your experience

Firebase and Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase Firestore, a cloud database with industry-standard security. Data is isolated per user — you can only access your own data. We use Firebase Authentication for secure sign-in.

Firebase services are subject to Google's privacy policy. Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure in the United States.

AI Processing via Anthropic

When you use the "Analyze with AAMC Competencies," "Generate Personal Statement," or "Export" features, your journal entry text is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. Anthropic's API processes your text to generate competency analysis and other outputs.

We do not store your journal text with Anthropic. Anthropic's data practices are governed by their privacy policy. We send only the minimum data necessary to generate results.

Important: Do not enter sensitive personal health information (PHI), patient names, or identifying patient information into your journal entries.

Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently deleted within 30 days. You may also delete individual entries and activities at any time within the app.

Your Rights

Access: You can view all your data within the app at any time.
Deletion: You can delete individual entries, activities, or your entire account at any time.
Export: You can copy your data using the export features in the app.
Portability: Contact us at support@premedjournal.com to request a full data export.

Children's Privacy

PremedJournal is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use this app.

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including Firebase Security Rules that ensure only you can access your data. Connections to our services use HTTPS/TLS encryption.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Google Firebase: Authentication and database storage
Anthropic Claude API: AI text analysis and generation

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
